Eastern Anatolia is
a very big region with many striking archeological sites and
it is worth to explore the area also for the architecture of the
region's historic buildings.
The best time to
visit is Eastern Anatolia is the summer season as it is dry and
pleasant.
We suggest you to
leave a minimum of 4 days to explore and enjoy this region as the
distances are long and the road conditions may not be perfect. While
planning your eastern Anatolia itinerary booking hotels in advance
is recommended.
Erzurum (the
largest city in the region with an airport)is the only city to
recommend for visiting during both summer and winter seasons where
the Palandoken ski center is located.
Erzurum is the best location to be
selected as a base for visiting
Kaçkar Mountains, Dogubeyazit and
Mount Ararat.
Agri, a provincial capital on a 1,650 m high plateau, takes its name
from the mountain which looms over it. The pleasant Balik (Fish)
Lake to the northeast, not surprisingly, has plenty of fish
restaurants serving local delicacies. Thermal springs bubble up all
over the area. For those who want a hardy outdoor event, visit the
Bubi Ski Center, 20 km southwest of Agri, for a few days of snow
sport

Van is also famous for its
cats. The Turkish Van cat is a breed of cat native to the
rugged mountains of the Lake Van region in Eastern Turkey. Turkish Vans are recognized as
patterned cats with color restricted to the head and tail with the
body of the cat being white. Historically, in Turkey, solid white is
also the color for the Van cat, which some consider to be synonymous
with the Turkish Van.
